Reheat continued its long line of supporting young learners in the area by welcoming Joe Tansey to undertake a project through The Ogden Trust.
As part of his 4-week internship with us, Joe completed a detailed feasibility study for a community heat project in Alnwick, Northumberland. Joe had to understand factors such as heating challenges where there was a lack of connection to the gas grid, relying instead on alternatives like oil and LPG. The project aimed to explore the potential for replacing these with a district heat network powered by a wood-chip biomass energy center. The project covered several areas including heat network operations, energy consumption data, carbon savings and impacts on the community.
We were especially pleased to support the Coastal Energy Programme, a Northumberland-based initiative helping to bring the The Ogden Trust to schools, universities, and companies to help students gain hands-on experience in scientific research and project work. The Ogden Trust itself is an educational charity in the UK that promotes the teaching and learning of physics. It provides scholarships, resources, and project support to inspire and foster future physicists. The Trust aims to increase access to physics education, especially in underrepresented communities, through various initiatives, partnerships, and internships.
