Katie joined Reheat back in 2022 as administrative support for our Heat Supply & Installation teams. Here Katie tells us about her journey at Reheat and the positive impact she has made within Heat Supply & our Health & Wellbeing programme.
When I joined Reheat, my role focused primarily on administration, but it’s grown significantly since then. Now, as Heat Supply Coordinator, I’m responsible for overseeing fuel supply and performance across a range of biomass heat systems. My day-to-day includes forecasting and ordering biomass fuel, tracking system performance data, reporting on carbon savings, and working closely with engineers and suppliers. I also support service and maintenance scheduling and help coordinate responses to faults across multiple sites, working as part of a wider team to ensure our clients receive reliable, efficient heat.
What drew me to Reheat was the opportunity to combine my passion for sustainability with my experience in administration and operational support. I’ve worked in school administration and provided business support to small enterprises and charitable organisations, so I’ve always been comfortable juggling priorities and finding ways to make systems work better. Reheat offered a chance to bring that experience into an industry that aligns with my personal values, and I’ve never looked back. I’ve always been driven by roles where I can see the bigger picture and help things run more smoothly, something that fits perfectly with our mission to make low-carbon energy practical and accessible.
An area I’m especially proud of is the work I’ve done to bring more organisation and clarity to our internal systems and procedures. I’ve helped streamline how we manage recurring tasks, track fuel deliveries, and handle service and fault coordination making it easier for the wider team to stay on top of site activity. It’s not about starting from scratch but about putting the right structure in place to help everything run more efficiently and consistently across the business. As someone who is neurodivergent, I know first-hand how important clear processes and structured systems can be, not just for me, but for creating a more inclusive and supportive working environment for everyone.
The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the real-world impact of what we do. Whether it’s helping a school reduce its carbon footprint or making sure rural homes stay warm over winter, it’s incredibly motivating to know the work we do matters. I also get a lot of satisfaction from problem-solving, finding ways to make processes smoother, reports clearer, or operations more efficient.
Alongside my role as Heat Supply Co-ordinator, I’m proud to be one of Reheat’s Health & Wellbeing Advocate’s and the company’s first Mental Health First Aider. Supporting my colleagues and contributing to a positive, inclusive workplace culture means a lot to me, and I think it ties in closely with Reheat’s “Powered by People” value. It’s a company that genuinely cares about its staff, and that makes a big difference.
For anyone thinking about starting out in this sector, I’d say don’t worry if you’re not coming from a technical or engineering background, you don’t have to be an engineer to make a difference in sustainable energy. There are so many roles in low-carbon energy that benefit from transferable skills, organisation, communication, data analysis, and coordination are just as important as technical knowledge. Be curious, stay open to learning, and don’t be afraid to bring your unique strengths to the table.
